My grandpa died before 4 years at the age of 97+. He lost memory during his last few days. But whenever he was able to recollect his thoughts & was able to understand what’s going on, he used to talk about his involvement in Mahatma Gandhi’s khadi movement during India’s freedom struggle. Khadi means hand woven cotton fabric. He used to preach few things till the day he was alive;
1. Saying/wishing/greeting RAM RAM is not a religious thing, even though LORD RAM is the highest celebrated deity in Hindu religion. It’s about seeing divine in other human life & exchanging equal amounts of respect for that reason.
2. The biggest sinners in this world go to church/temple/mosque very often. Because they have to keep reminding god to wash their sins.
3. 10% of your wealth/income must go towards DANA (in Sanskrit it means DONATION), donation towards helping underprivileged & upliftment of society.
Not a secret, i own a small health supplement business since September-2017. And now that business enjoys a loyal customer base because of good quality products & quick customer query resolution. With those fitness enthusiasts in mind, i started an athleisure clothing brand in August-2019.
Like every other human, i am not perfect & my business is also not perfect all the time. Especially the atheleisure clothing brand i am talking about, not talking about profit or loss. My operation is small and we never made a loss. I am talking about clothes not being perfect sometimes. While manufacturing/stitching/printing, in few cases there’s a misplaced logo or a packaging label mishap, a stitching at wrong part of the clothing material or short hoodie strings, so we reject few clothes while passing it through quality testing. But even those quality reject clothes are completely usable, sometimes even i use them as my layer-1 clothes during winter. Like previous year, this year too we will go to a nearby orphanage & a refugee shelter to donate some winter clothes/blanket/woolen socks. There’s an amazing feeling of fulfillment while giving it back. I am forever grateful to almighty for giving me little more than i can consume.
(In case anyone wants to join, i have updated the address in our CMU university group. Please don’t try to overcrowd the place, 12-13 people are enough. It bums my mood to see people roaming around without mask, so please wear a mask while coming.)
Mama said; “You never need to be religious. Religious people believe bit too much in god, angel, heaven, hell & demons. And that’s low-key toxic in 2021. But you must believe in KARMA, you will get what you give. Karma is real. The nature of our world is based on EQUILIBRIUM. Good intentions & kind acts will always be rewarded, even GOD’s existence depends on that goodness. Karma & Kindness go hand in hand. This tiny bit of knowledge is SPIRITUAL, not religious. Become little spiritual with time“.
My takeaway from this is; YOU AREN’T ALLOWED TO DISRESPECT PEOPLE. YOU CANNOT TREAT PEOPLE LIKE GARBAGE AND WORSHIP GOD AT THE SAME TIME. THAT’S BOTH DOUBLE STANDARDS & FAKEFUCKERY. Be truthful & real. If you have little time to make someone smile, do it. Buy a loaf of bread for a homeless person or crack a dick joke to a sad friend, both will help you score some good Karma for your trip to heaven when you leave this planet. If you think heaven is hoax, join hands with such people who will help you experience heaven on earth. Kindness is the easiest step towards your spiritual journey.
People bring perceptions. Even our media outlets, news channels & newspaper all try to portray a perception. The same way your understanding is also a perception. The problem with PERCEPTION is, it’s a mixture of truth, lies, nonsense, imaginary bullshit & fakefuckery.
What i want in life is TRUTH. TRUTH always remains same. There are no 2 sides to TRUTH. The story of TRUTH never changes. TRUTH’s approach, flow, guidance, information & assistance all are CONSISTENT. If someone/something is TRUTHFUL, the only proof is whether it’s CONSISTENT. TRUTH IS CONSISTENT, ALWAYS.
(RIP Sir David Amess. Everytime there’s a knife attack or rape/drugs/abduction incident, either it’s a Pakistani or a Somalia based immigrant who’s the culprit in 90% cases. I am not just talking about UK, this happened in Germany before a month & couple of times in Montreal-Canada last year. And this thing called ISLAMIC EXTREMISM has no sign of stopping. Fuck that idea of religion which makes you kill someone in the name of GOD. There should be a definition for this term TERRORIST.Every motherfucker who owns an illegal weapon is a terrorist in my eyes & every person who supports them must be treated the same way. All Governments must come together to form a resolution that next time a terrorist is killed or captured, never mention he belongs to which country/religion/organization. Just mention, an INSECT was caught & killed. That’s it. Giving these assholes an identity is a major failure of our society.)
Sometimes my white friends want to know to whom i am saying “RAM RAM” over phone instead of starting a conversation with a simple HELLO!! Today is the right day to answer this. This has something to do with my values, upbringing, religion, morals, childhood & my grandpa’s bedtime stories because my both parents were working. I am not a strong believer in religion the way people portray now a days. But i believe in your beliefs. I believe there’s GOD, a positive divine power guiding us from somewhere. If you are productive, truthful, consistent with what you do from a clean heart, kind or humble towards other human, all of these acts are filled with godly goodness. I am born Hindu, and i believe i am a practicing Hindu. My religion teaches there are multiple forms of GOD, and there are multiple pathways to heaven, so all religions must be treated with equal amounts of respect & acceptance.
Let’s get back to my answer. Before some thousands of years there used to be a King named “Lord Ram”, incarnation of god significant to Hinduism. Some circumstances forced him to stay away from his family & palace. He lived in forest for 14 years like a normal human leaving his royalty aside. During those 14 years, he fought some demons, saved his wife & kingdom after killing a 10 headed monster named Ravan. Those 10 heads represent lust, anger, delusion, greed, pride, envy, mind, intellect, will and the ego. Ravan is the example how certain negative traits can downsize good qualities & the world remembers him as a MONSTER today. Today is the date “LORD RAM” killed Ravan & “godess DURGA” killed mahishasur, this day symbolises victory of good over evil & we celebrate it as DUSSEHRA. HAPPY DUSSEHRA TO EVERYONE WHETHER YOU ARE CELEBRATING OR NOT.
After killing Ravan, Lord Ram returned back to rule his kingdom. Under his kingdom, there was no place for any criminal or derogatory behaviour. He established a standard for men to be truthful, faithful, kind, loyal & brave. Till the day he ruled, every human being enjoyed equal amounts of respect & happiness. So when a Hindu says “RAM RAM”, Ram is the goodness/god inside you/your soul. One Ram is for you & other one for me. The meaning behind it is; “WE ARE EXCHANGING EQUAL AMOUNTS OF RESPECT AS HUMANS WITH A HOPE TO SEE A WORLD LIKE LORD RAM’S KINGDOM WHERE EVERYONE IS HAPPY & TREATED EQUALLY”.
Religion is good, but organized religion is a scam.
GOD created humans to be independent, creative, unique and beautiful with own mind & heart, so that we can choose between what’s right & what’s wrong!! If your religion dictates how to pray, how to live, what to eat, when to eat, what to wear, what to think, then i am sorry to inform you that your God has already started cancelling you.
Whatever happening in Israel/Gaza/Palestine, it’s another British colonialism era blunder which was left to blast almost 100 years back. Let’s not go with the political side of it, i am highly unqualified to comment on that. In short, it’s a situation which could have been avoided & it should be avoided. When it’s a fight between a right wing/left wing/liberal or radical group against a sovereign state, the winner must be the sovereign state. That’s how we can move move stronger closer together towards a democratic human society. Whenever you are left to choose between ideas & ideology, choose ideas because there’s space to think & grow.
Israel is a sovereign democratic country & it must protect its territory and interest irrespective of who says what, international support or few foreign media dishing out. I know few people will question my opinion & few will straight point it towards Islamophobia. Sorry to say I DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND TOO MUCH ABOUT MY OWN RELIGION, so i am not the right person to like or dislike any other’s religion or faith. Let’s say, I CAN’T CONNECT WITH THE IDEA OF DIFFERENT RELIGIONS HAVING DIFFERENT GODS. If there’s a GOD, there’s only one who’s looking forward to see some better HUMANS on this planet. If you believe your GOD is true, he doesn’t need you to protect him, he is way bigger stronger powerful compared to your love or any other person’s hate. Follow his words & work towards becoming a better Human with time instead of nurturing/supporting any radical ideology. Seeing people suffer hurts whether it’s Gaza or the Corona virus situation in India. Hope to see a better tomorrow & leave a better open friendly world for next generation.
Since my childhood i am that odd one out kinda person in my family. My family is a mixture of different values/culture/faith/religion. And i always feel bored when someone talks about religion or God. It’s my middle school days i remember, one of my friends named Mohsin said “he is a true muslim, because he is praying 5 times a day & he is fasting during EID”. The same way another christinan friend said “he follows everything from easter, saint patrick’s day, thanksgiving, christmas to sunday mass because he is a believer in ONE TRUE CHURCH catholic values/teachings”. All such things were just foolish to my middle school brain. My middle school & high school days were all about playing chess, basketball, some video games, playing piano, little bit of painting, if i had too much free time i was teaching trigonometry & physics to few of my dumb friends. I never understood religion & God.
Let’s come to the main part of the story. My religion is Hindu. And both of my parents are full time employees & they are also bit too much into social service. So during my childhood i got plenty of time to spend with my grandparents. Out of curiosity once i asked my grandpa; “All my friends say something about their God or religion. Is there a process to be a true or good hindu?” First he laughed at me for 2 minutes, then he replied; “You become a good human, that’s good hindu”. I again asked; “Which specific God to pray & what’s the prayer i have to chant?” He again laughed at me, then replied; “There are literally 33 million Gods in our religion, even i am confused. Right now finish your homework & studies, eat all vegetables without being a pain to your mama, don’t watch TV for long time, sleep before 9pm, wake up early in the morning, these are all your duties/work at this age, after few years your work will become your identity. And your work is your best worship to your God.” That’s all i was taught about religion. My grandpa died at the age of 97+. I still remember every single moment i spent around him.
Some friends question why i attend church service sometimes even though i am not a Christian!! The answer is; There was a church on my way to school. Father of that church used to give free teacakes to every kid after morning prayer. Sometimes i used to eat that teacake while going to school, and sometimes i used to give it to any homeless or disabled person near my street. These tiny memories are still alive in me. I work & i make little more money than i can consume even after my share of savings+investment, i try to give it back to the society from where i earned. That’s why sometimes it’s a visit to any orphanage, community shelter/home & sometimes also it’s a sunday service. It’s not like I don’t believe in God, it’s more like “I DON’T BELIEVE IN DIFFERENT RELIGIONS HAVE DIFFERENT GODS”. If there’s a GOD, there’s only one.
The gist of the story is; Do something good everyday or just do your work/duty in time, rest assured your GOD loves you.
